Yesterday was Dolly’s 61st birthday. She was born in Tennessee, 4th of 12 kids!

I played a set of her music mixed with her songs performed by other artists. The recording industry laws only allowed me to play four songs by a single artist within 3 hours…so I was very limited…even tho we have plenty of Dolly to play at KHSU! I can always play more Dolly during any future show!

Thanks for all the wonderful calls. Sue told me that she found Dolly so wonderful to hear, and that she was “mind clearing” for her. I really appreciated that comment… that music can be healing by allowing us to forget our difficulties for awhile, “mind clearing.” Aaah!

I mentioned one of my favorite movies “9 to 5″, in which Dolly co-starred with Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. Then a listener called to tell me that she worked as a caregiver for the wife of the man who had done the animated scene in the movie, and that the woman had the some of the “9 to 5″ animation cells hanging in her Humboldt County home (where they retired). Wow!! [If you are not remembering about the animation in the movie…it was when the women were smoking pot and fantacizing about how to punish their bad boss. Lily’s fantasy included the Disney-styled animation)

I also found out that Dolly shares a birthday with the late Janis Joplin…so had to play a little sumpthin’ from her….

And I was very grateful for the other wonderful calls today…lotsa sweet people out there!
